A Prayer For Our Words
You are the living Word.
Your words are perfect—always timely, always wise, life-giving, healing, and whole.
My words are imperfect—often untimely, foolish,
life-taking, wounding, and wanting.
Forgive me for the times—even this week—when my words were reckless, sarcastic, dishonest, or dishonoring.
Behind my words is my heart—the prompter of my language. If my words are not what they should be—it is because my heart is not where it should be.
Do the needed surgery—so my words will be measured, bringing healing and hope to those around me—speech reserved only for truth, spoken always in love.
Help me to seize who I am in Christ—a new creation
Redeemed and enabled to live the resurrection life now—full of the Spirit, prayed over continually by Christ, with no excuse for words that abuse or discourage, And every power to speak words that give life.
To the glory of God, Amen.
